BCGA Carrot Growers Open Day

We were delighted to attend the recent BCGA Carrot Growers Open Day. The event was kindly hosted by MH Poskitt at Camblesforth. Yet again the season has thrown some terrible weather conditions at the crops and it was a pleasure to see how well the Seminis varieties had performed in such challenging conditions.

The newer material coming through the pipeline continues to perform consistently well, with two of the Nantes varieties proving to be an extremely viable alternative to older varieties in this sector. Both Carruba and SVDN5865 stood out for their high yield, excellent root strength, size, uniformity and colour whilst Caribou also attracted a lot of interest from growers, standing out for its root length and consistency.

Other Seminis varieties in the field included award winning high carotene Belveta which continues to attract attention from consumers due to its exceptional taste and potential opportunities in a number of processing formats.

The imperator variety Propeel also stood out from the crowd for its consistency in length and uniformity.
